What you need:

  • The MaOS game archive
  • A ChatGPT chat that can read uploaded files
  • A new, clean chat session
  • 2–10 minutes for the AI to analyze the archive and initialize the game

Step 1 - Download the MaOS archive from itch.io.
Step 2 - Open a clean AI chat with file-upload support.
Step 3 - Upload the full archive.
Step 4 - Paste the launch prompt from the Quick Start file.
Step 5 - Create your character card and begin the first turn.

Becoming a Planetary Settlement Master
MaOS is a free AI-installed solo strategy RPG about decisions under pressure. It is not built around perfect information, safe choices, or a map that tells you what to do next. The world does not explain itself in advance. The base is incomplete. Resources are limited. People have different priorities. Every action changes the situation.

This is not a short roleplay prompt that asks an AI to improvise an adventure. MaOS is designed as a structured game protocol installed into an AI session. The AI does not simply invent scenes. It runs the game structure: the visible world, resource pressure, operational risks, fatigue, infrastructure, environmental uncertainty, and the consequences of the player’s decisions.

The role of the player is not to “win” by guessing the author’s intended path. The player acts as the settlement lead responsible for survival, expansion, observation, and stability. Some problems are technical. Some are ecological. Some are logistical. Some are human. The difficult part is that they do not arrive separately. They overlap.

A Planetary Settlement Master must decide what can be done now, what must wait, what should be tested, what is too dangerous to assume, and what the base can afford to ignore for one more day.

MaOS is built on the BOIS Core: a decision architecture for acting under incomplete knowledge. BOIS separates facts, assumptions, unknowns, actions, risks, and verified consequences. In the game, this structure becomes playable. The player does not read a theory first. The player experiences it through pressure, scarcity, disagreement, partial evidence, and operational trade-offs.

The first available level introduces the player to the basic conditions of settlement: a forward base, limited capacity, environmental pressure, and the need to build stability without full certainty. Later levels will expand the scale, complexity, and consequences of settlement decisions.

No spoilers are needed to explain the core idea.

What Is an AI-Installed Game?
MaOS does not run as a traditional app. Instead, you upload the game archive into an AI chat, and the AI acts as the game engine, scenario controller, and world-state keeper. Currently tested and optimized for ChatGPT with file-upload support. Other AI systems may work, but are not officially supported yet.

To start, download the game files, open a new AI chat that can read uploaded files, upload the MaOS archive, then paste the launch prompt from the Quick Start instructions. The game will analyze the archive, ask you to create a character card, and then begin the first turn.

Each new launch creates a unique playthrough. Descriptions, scenes, turns, and wording may differ between sessions. This is intentional and part of the design.

The goal of the level is intentionally not revealed in advance. Completing the level is not simply about building a base or collecting a specific amount of resources. Discovering what the real objective is belongs to the game itself.

Feedback is welcome, especially on:
  • whether the launch instructions are clear;
  • whether the first turns are understandable;
  • whether the game balance feels fair;
  • whether the AI maintains the game structure correctly;
  • whether the format is easy to understand for a first-time player.
